Practice Information:
At
this time, my practice does not have openings for cases of medication
management only. I do provide medication management in the context of an
ongoing therapy, or once I have established a relationship and medications are
stable.
I
offer ongoing management of common psychiatric disorders/issues such as:
·
Attention
deficit disorder, both child and adult
·
Anxiety
disorders, including generalized anxiety, postpartum anxiety, social anxiety,
panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship
issues and other stress-related anxiety
·
Adjustment
disorders, Gender issues
·
Mood
disorders, including major depression, postpartum depression, complicated
grief, peri-menopausal and premenstrual mood disorder, seasonal affective disorder
and autoimmune-related depression
·
School
and Behavioral issues with children, and parent guidance
A
small private practice such as my own is best suited for providing exceptional
care for the conditions listed above. Ideal management of certain other
conditions requires a larger healthcare system and availability of multiple
providers from various disciplines. I do not normally accept or treat patients
with challenges that involve or include:
·
Emergency
care, in-hospital care, or another specialized setting
·
Bipolar
disorder and schizophrenia
·
Significant
use of alcohol or other drugs
·
Court
ordered treatment
·
Recurring
suicidal thoughts or serious attempts at self harm
·
Eating
disorders
·
Custody
Evaluations
Approach:
I
use play therapy with children, and talk therapy which is psychodynamic and
connection-based with older children and adults. I also incorporate techniques
of mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention
(for OCD), Dialectical Behavior Therapy and affect regulation, and medication
as indicated.
Billing:
I
do not participate in any insurance network, including Medicare and Medicaid.
Many insurance policies allow for out of network coverage and I will provide a
statement with fees, procedures and diagnostic codes so that one may pursue
payment from their insurance provider. I realize that this policy does not work
for all potential clients, and I apologize if this does not work well for you.
There many excellent local providers who are on HMO panels and or bill
insurance directly. But I believe that this policy allows me to deliver higher
quality care by seeing fewer patients, spending more time on each patient, and
eliminating excess paperwork.
Payment:
I
accept cash, credit cards, debit cards and PayPal. Payment is due at the time
of each session, or can be paid in advance for the month’s sessions. Checks
should be made out to Alison Potter M.D.. Returned
checks will be billed for 25.00.
Cancellation policy:
Appointment
changes or cancellations must be made one full business day prior, or will be billed
for the full amount. Requests to reschedule scheduled appointments will be
honored as possible, but in order to hold a specific regular hour, I cannot
regularly allow more than one cancellation per month.
Full disclosure:
I
have no contractual obligations to any pharmaceutical or insurance companies.
